With decades of printing expertise, we guide each product through development with a sharp eye for both true textile quality and the latest commercial styles. By taking the time to get it right at the sampling stage, we create fabrics and wallcoverings that sell today and become tomorrow’s classics.

Working closely with designers from the outset, we refine interpretations, adjust colour, and perfect detail before anything reaches print. Every design is prepared with precision in our separations studio, released only when it meets the highest standards - the foundation of work that lasts, performs, and stands apart.

Vat Digital - We pioneered the use of vat dyestuffs in digital printing, combining modern machinery with the unmatched appearance and performance..  Read more

The result is colour that endures, with superior light and rub fastness, ideal for upholstery, heavier fabrics, and linens.

Our range of stocked base cloths includes many of the heavier and more characterful grounds also used in screen printing, ensuring consistency across methods. Vat digital production in our Thailand facilities can be combined with block and screen printing, this can lead to enhanced products with specialist finishes such as glazing and foils.

Block Printed Fabrics, Perfectly imperfect - We are the last company still producing complex hand-block prints..  Read more

Hand-block printing is one of the oldest textile arts, where colours are applied one by one to create depth, character, and a finish beyond the reach of machines.

In the Lancashire mills where Turnbull began, the block printer was at the top of the workforce - the only person who never had to clock in, often working in a top hat. A single design often involves more than 15 colours and over a hundred blocks in one repeat, with many printers training for years on just one design.

When the last apprentice-trained block craftsman at Turnbull saw the risk of the skill fading, he carried his knowledge and set up a new team in Thailand, determined to pass it on. Those he taught over 20 years ago are now masters in their own right, teaching the next generation. By investing in this craft, we have kept it alive - and are proud that it continues to thrive today.

Screen Prints - Wet-on-dry printing, where colour gains depth and definition. Each layer is applied, dried, and built upon - creating crisp detail and a unique print mark..  Read more

Our method and vat dyes ensure outstanding light fastness and durability, with colour fixed deep into the fabric through steaming and washing. Finishes such as chintz, softening, or tumbling further enhance the result.

We also embrace technical challenges, combining screen prints with specialist techniques such as foil, devoré, and discharge to achieve effects that stand apart.

Wall Coverings - Our wallcoverings are produced across a wide range of grounds, from non-wovens and conventionals to grass-cloths and specialist textures..  Read more

Digital production sits at the core of our wallcovering offer, where technical knowledge and creative experimentation come together. The same meticulous sampling and design development we apply to fabrics carries through here, giving us a strong footing in this expanding market.

With flexibility in scale, colour, and detail, our digital processes open new possibilities, while our hand-printing capability remains for those projects where the finer print mark and artistry of traditional craft are essential.

grounds and Warp Prints - We source the finest grounds with a trained eye for texture, movement, and character - and guide our clients in choosing the right base for their design. Every project is a collaboration, ensuring each print is matched to the cloth that brings it to life.  Read more

Quality is everything. We choose our base fabrics for their density and handle, and pre-check every order before it reaches the print room. We focus on the quality of every base cloth, from linens and cottons to silks and unions, looking for subtle surface variations that bring extra depth to a print. These nuances, often small quirks in texture or finish, give the fabric greater dimension and a more characterful result.

Our expertise lies not only in sourcing but also in guiding clients towards the right ground for their design. Many of our core cloths are woven in partnership with leading European spinners, giving us full control over consistency and performance. Our stocked bases span fine linens, cotton percales, chintz grounds, textured cottons, unions, silks, velvets, wools, and indoor–outdoor options, all finished to exacting standards.

In warp printing, we have developed unique constructions that combine silk, wool, cotton, and linen, producing fabrics with depth, character, and enduring appeal.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY - Every print and process leaves a mark. We invest in technologies that cut waste and measure impact, while maintaining a transparent supply chain to ensure our fabrics are made to the highest ethical and environmental standards.  Find out more
