OUR HISTORY. Rooted in Britain, working worldwide..  Read more

Turnbull Designs began in 1881, growing from Lancashire’s textile mills into a respected name in printed fabrics and wallcoverings. During the wars, the business, like many others, supported the front by printing for soldiers. The years also brought losses within the company, reflecting the wider national experience.

In the 1960s, Edward Turnbull revived and evolved the business, safeguarding the design archive and centuries-old blocks that remain a source of inspiration today. That spirit of adaptation has guided each generation since, carrying the business from Britain to Thailand and the United States.

Now in its seventh generation, Turnbull continues to produce textiles and wallcoverings with the same values that have defined its history — experience, integrity, and innovation.

He preserved centuries-old hand blocks and design records, building a collection now recognised as one of national importance and one of the largest pattern libraries of printed cloth in the UK.

He also had the vision to expand screen printing capabilities and brought in his son, Paul Turnbull, who pushed the boundaries of digital printing and established the Turnbull name as a mark of assured quality.

Thailand. Where craft meets innovation..  Read more

In 2005, we expanded to Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima. Here, our design studio and production teams work alongside highly skilled artisans, combining technical knowledge with craft expertise. This site is home to hand block printing, detailed screen printing, warp prints, weaving many of our basecloths, selected wallpaper production, and pioneering digital printing.

With decades of experience, Thailand has become the place where we experiment boldly, creating complex, high-end prints that demand both craftsmanship and technical precision. Many of our team have been with us for over 20 years, passing knowledge from one generation to the next - junior block printers becoming masters, and the cycle continuing.

We are proud of what this means: a centre of craft and innovation where artistry and advanced processes combine. It allows us to produce work of rare depth and character - distinctive fabrics and wallcoverings that set the standard for modern print while safeguarding the skills that make them possible.

America. Turnbull Design, moving forward..  Read more

Our newest chapter is in Forest City, North Carolina - a dedicated facility that marks a major step in our growth. Just ninety minutes from Charlotte, this site brings us closer to many of our customers and suppliers, strengthening the relationships that have always been at the heart of our business.

Equipped with the latest digital pigment printing technology, the factory focuses on lighter-use upholstery, drapery, pillows, and wallcoverings — with the same attention to detail and design that defines Turnbull.

We are excited by what this means: faster response times, shorter supply chains, and a deeper connection to the American market. It’s not only about 'Made in America' - it’s about being present, responsive, and sustainable as we continue to grow.
